Joining a Guard is a way to narrow the range of provinces which can target you for invading and magic This can be useful for defending from bottom feeding, as well as not letting much smaller provinces perform attacks or magic on you.
As a member of a Guard, only other provinces within the Guard ranges (see below) can target you for any attacks or magic

No Guard: from 40% to 250% of your land
Royal guard : from 60% to 166%, of your land, cost 2% of gold production per tic
Elite guard: from 75% to 133%,your land and 0 gold cost per tic as the Royal Guard so joining the elite guard it cost nothing just a lower % of land
You have to Join the Royal guard before you join the elite guard.
Joining a Guard takes 24 hours (48 total for Elite Guard) and can only be done after day 5 of the round Once you are in, you cannot leave for 48 hours. Additionally, performing any actions on a province out of the range of the Guard you are joining will reset the application to 24 hours.
Leaving a Guard is instant.

Really interesting concept, it kind of reminds me of entering/leaving PvP zones in games like WoW, for some reason lol

This is also probably not something we could do with our smaller player base, narrowing the number of possibly targets even more. Maybe better idea for when we have 2000 players 🤔
