Vacation Mode Manipulation

I want to confirm if we can go to Vacation mode anytime and cancel it anytime we like?
It looks like this Vacation Mode can be manipulated and use it to protect you from any attacker. I just happen to read something in our GC that after the attack and gained land, we supposed to hit him back a pre-re but then he goes on prot and there is no changes in his Kingdom land or castle.

xiAo-Shin Star As far as I know you can't have any retals out against you with vacation mode. The protection might have come from the stone they gave a week ago

I don't think its a protection stone. Because earlier, they are supposed to end protection together my fellow mate tried attack him and his prot. After a few tick we got him then he break prot and attacked our guy before the tick and gained land. We tried to pre-re but his prot after tick, no castle and land changes.

Other explanation is that he hit and got retalled same tick before you guys realized? Was there a KS change?
