Konkistador yeah I'm not willing to support any changes to food beyond what we've done at the moment, for the reasons you've stated. Cutting the pop food requirement -50% was pretty significant, it was basically a +16.5% buff to food production for my kingdom.
Magic should be getting some pretty significant improvements for next round, but not something that can unbalance as big as food. We might have some spells that buff BAS, or armory, or training speed. I've got some ideas in my notes for other things too, including some offensive spell ideas.
In all changes we gotta think of how it will be abused, because nothing is ever an innocent little buff once in a while, it's always "aha, now I can fully replace X and use that advantage to do YZ". So even new spells will probably be underpowered as a default with the expectation that if they were useful enough to be used 24/7, then they would be, and if not legitimately then by a multi or troll.
