There have been a couple posts lately/today by some people noting difficulties at lower ks levels in attacking/defending and I have a suggestion that might be part of the puzzle needed for balance.
If I'm not mistaken, currently every tech just gives a flat 1k ks. However, military techs have a much bigger impact than 1k ks gives. For example, sharper blades makes elf swordsmen have 25% more attack. (4 to 5).
I think the military techs (and possibly economic ones, but I haven't thought of a way to balance those) should not give a flat 1k ks, but instead add a multiplier into the ks given per unit based on how much more effective the unit is in battle, attack or defence wise. I know Keeper and Thane were working on tech changes for next round, hopefully something like this makes it in.
This could help mitigate some of the issues mid round joiners face in enjoying the game, as chances are they will be stuck in the pit with at least a few smaller kingdoms who have some of the military techs done at their strength levels, but be utterly hopeless in fighting them due to the disparities in army effectiveness.
