As someone whom has had their lands reduced to 5 a couple of times. The KS inflation tied to tech is a bit of a headache. Maybe have the KS drop more when near death and then slowly rise up to where it would be do to the tech researched. Say 24-48 hours?
A loophole with peasants that I've noticed (and used) is that when the winter is about to kill off your people do to lack of housing you can put them in the market. And wait for your houses to be built then cancel the sale. Eat the 5% penalty as they would have died anyway.
