DougEfresh it's not faceless because I specifically added a social component to it = display who is selling/buying things.
As for the community aspect, we don't have the same community as 2 decades ago. Back then we had a couple thousand players to have endless alliances and interactions with. Now, we have maybe 100. It could take 10 rounds to get a decent player base, we just don't know.
The market will make it easier to connect with each other, add an additional dynamic for fun beyond waiting for the next tick, and modernizes Thardferr in a way that's synonymous with any decent MMO.
It will also be yet another way people can craft their strategy beyond demanding we nerf something - like someone that finds themselves in a situation where their army will abandon because they don't have enough farms, the market gives them a chance to trade for food. If they don't have gold to buy the food, maybe they can sell some iron to get the gold to buy the food, etc.
I really don't see any downside to having it.
Thardferr has always been unique for being so complex = to build a troop first you need to build a GH to house the troop and a Forge to make weapons/armor for it, before you can forge the weapons and armor you need mills and mines to produce the raw materials, then you need to build the armor and weapons, then finally you can build the troop - but you also need an economy to feed and pay the troop. It's a lot of moving parts. I don't think we would honor Thardferr's legacy by keeping it simple, when we have the tech to make it even cooler and add even more interesting dynamics.
Maybe some fun new features and quality of life improvements are just what we need to bring a bigger player base back 🤔
Plus, players have already been having a market all this time anyways. The old ways were just difficult for players, you had to post stuff for sale in the forums, haggle, hope someone doesn't try to screw you over on the deal... The market solves all of that headache. Shoot just look at the first test round, there were several trade posts posted. Why let the players continue struggling to trade when I can build something awesome to do all the hard work automatically?
