Jaxx I would suggest trying something new, a race you hadn't tried before, a different crazy strategy, etc.
I've had more fun this round so far then I did last round, but that's prolly just because I'm not chasing as many bugs, actually have time to test playing the game.
More players would definitely make the game a lot funner. There'd be more targets, and alliances wouldn't be as difficult to navigate. Less chance of hitting someone who has a couple buddies that will gang up on you.
I would have thought everyone was smart enough to realize aggressive or toxic tactics would be a bad idea in this climate. There aren't enough players to derive joy out of completely obliterating someone - because if they get obliterated and quit playing, then what, no more fun to be had. It's like, at this point, you need your enemy to survive and be able to put up a fight, or else you won't have any enemies to play with.
If marketing doesn't work and the player base shrinks, then what? We'll prolly just close up the game and run a special mini round once a year as a special thing?
So it really behooves people to play a friendly game at this point. To encourage each other. To celebrate your enemy's wins. It's not just about getting the #1 spot, but rebuilding the community.
If/when we can get a decently sized player base, then cutthroat tactics won't be so bad. A few alliances can scheme and plot against each other, obliterate each other, and they'll just rebuild and restart. Players won't quit because the situation won't be hopeless. Right now with the smaller player base, I think it's just really easy for someone to feel like it's hopeless.
If alliances ruin the game, then what? Remove friendly spell casting on other players, remove the aid system and market, remove provinces and force everyone to play a free for all... I guess it could happen if the player base stagnates or shrinks and everyone feels hopeless.
Maybe Thardferr can't survive in the modern world. Not enough players, not enough diversity, too much concentration of power in few alliances. Maybe we're just reviving it so we can see that it really is dead for good, who knows.
I guess we'll see 🥺
