We all agree, getting hit sucks. Losing army, having to rebuild, not getting protection when we successfully defend, losing so much time and effort.
If there was a way to work in battlefield recovery/looting. Some (not all) weapons and armor from fallen attackers and defenders are recovered and returned to the armory or broken down into their resource components, that might help ease the pain of defending, without messing with protection times/qualifications any.
Hell, it could be a new tech tree.
