Lord Thane

Is the 70% defense rule in this game?

Jets Yeah strategies and tech and everything else is part of the attack calcs, right now I'm just working on reducing losses so it's not 100%, and also make it more realistic/random. So far added a few randomizers, dampeners, caps and it's starting to look better.

Currently have caps set at 15% for ranged, 25% for short range, and 30% for melee, as @Xliest mentioned, the melee is where the most chaotic casualties occur while the fewest happen at long range (kind of historically accurate = used to thin ranks). I think this is a pretty good setup, but maybe need to tweak those % even more, currently losing half my army in tests (sorry Trupheous, I will make it up to you lol):

We managed to kill : 69 Catapult 70 Infantry 70 Militia 70 Rider 69 Rock thrower 70 Balista
But we lost : 45 Knight 45 Infantry 45 Pikeman 45 Heavy Infantry 45 Archer 45 Mounted Archers

Next I'm gonna inject some entropy at the end of each unit's loss calc, just to make it more realistic, less robotic. Trying to spread the damage out in a less basic way (hence 45 of each unit dying, currently).

Awe hell yeah, this looks a lot better for randomness (we each got 100 of every unit):
We managed to kill : 68 Catapult 73 Infantry 68 Militia 68 Rider 70 Rock thrower 68 Balista
But we lost : 43 Knight 46 Infantry 46 Pikeman 46 Heavy Infantry 42 Archer 49 Mounted Archers

Defender kind of got screwed on that, losing 70% of their whole army, that's pretty disheartening for a player. I think it would be better to dial things down so this generic test attack would have resulted in more like 1/3 attacker losses and maybe at most 40% defender losses? This just seems excessively deadly for attacker and defender, huge cost with little gains.

But, the randomness is great, haha!

I'm also only getting 1 land in all attack wins, so probably need to work on the loot part too.

how did that many wm die in that br?

Lord Thane This is why they implemented the 70% rule ages ago. You would only defend with 70% on any given attack, so you didnt lose 100%. It is indeed disheartening lol. I'd be looking to rebalance later for sure.

I'd always had the idea of being able to set troops being trained "in reserve", and being able to move them out later. But not being able to manually move troops back into reserve. /shrug

orrrr if you build a shit army and someone hits you with a good army, u defend with 70% (castle rule) and 70% gets slaughtered cause u got weak mili. Only thing that kills this would be the bottom feeding. Not sure how thard handled this but like i said, it seemed shadowwarrior BRs were the only wonky ones.

but i guess it would make bottomfeeding less of an issue if they cant actually kill ur military.

In my opinion the size of a kd would determine how long the battle lines would be. So for example if a kingdom of the same size attacked the would have equal amount of units per line so if the kds were 10000 ks each they would have 200unit long lines. (In this example) let’s assume that 1500 archers and 1000 infantry where battling against <attacking> 1000 archers and 1000 infantry <deffending>if we need to run through the details I’m available basically 24/7

Let’s make an assumption that the units attack and defence are all 1 for this example

So the first set of 200 archers would deal damage then the second set etc untill there were no more archers to fire calculating damages dealt the 1500 archers would hit approx 50% of their shots so they would deal 750 damage to 50/50 archers and infantry. And wound receive 500 damage split 50/50 to archers and infantry then you would determine kills likely the first and second line of 200 would be damaged the most so of the 750 damage 375 archers would die on the defenders and 375 infantry would die so the first line of the defenders infantry would be gone and only 25 of the second line would remain the attackers would take 500 split so 250 archers would die and the first line of infantry would die then 50 of the second line of infantry so they would be battling 150 for attackers vs 25 for defenders. On the second line. what ever survived would continue to battle on. then you would go to melee and the same set up would occur 200vs 200 if the first set dies then they would move on to the second set until all the lines went into battle at some point call it 20-30% of the total army remains the higher damaged (defender in this case would call it quits) so this would result in a battle win for the attackers it would affect the BAS but not nessarselily win land the win land condition wound be when enough troops are left after the attack based on factors like how many units /row and the kingdom strength and size. If 25% of the attacking army is left then the attackers win and take land.

That’s my interpretation of how the battle system works.

Xliest Pretty close, but believe me, it's a lot more complex than that, 1626 lines of code, without counting configuration files

TheKeeper You're really going to have that explain how the strategies are going to work lmao

Lord Thane changed the title to Baby Billy's Battle Bonkers .

My report says I attacked myself and i don't see a retal! I want my land back I stole 😃 haha

My Lord, my Lord, we were invaded by Underworld at Tuth-1! Enemies are upon us. They took everything what they could, our troops were unable to defend our kingdom. We must do something now!

          Hello,

I just noticed that the battle report form last night stated I lost 2 of each troop out of 100. However the returning quantity 96 not 98. For science!

          Jets

Are you guys able to send/receive messages? I don’t think mine are sending.

Just making sure I am understanding correctly, a theoretical army that is only comprised of archers (ranged) would always lose…. Because they cannot kill everyone in the first phrase (capped), but would be slaughtered in the following two stages.

CyberPtra I dont think Range is Capped necessarily. if you had enough damage to kill everything in the range phase i imagine you could still win?

CyberPtra the phased caps were removed and the old system with randomness was added back, and today I put additional entropy, so you can kill 100% at range again lol

To demonstrate, I'm attacking this poor soul with 10,000 archers here hehe:
