Lack of players - look at the KHOF, there's around 60 kingdoms then tapers off into a bunch of low castle high KS elves and then inactives. More active kingdoms would make people feel less shitty about being countered by those above them. Would also increase the number of targets people are willing to hit, if it's alliances that are holding them back. If the number of active kingdoms doubled, who would not want that? It's just a net benefit to the game. If we're able to attract more players through the next marketing push and it eventually develops a more healthy player base, then remove it. Even then though, I would think that more kingdoms is just better. It also lets people try out other races that they normally wouldn't want to invest an entire round on, and would give the devs a better idea on game balance when there's more attacks happening.
