What does the undead special tech do specifically, and do people feel it's worth it?

It's +1 range, not worth at all.

it's absolute trash - would recommend it being your last tech if you're playing undead

To be fair all of the racial techs are a little lack luster.
Humans Orc and Gnomes are the only ones that need to worry about getting them early.
Dwarves make a unit that does no damage live a little longer. Meh.
Elves get a few spells that are cool but can only be cast by mages and really still kinda meh.
Undead you already know is really not worth the time nor gold.

yeah elf is the worst by far - dwarf at least plays into their strengths, +5 of any stat on a unit is extremely strong

In the stat pages, it lists dark knights with 1 range damage. Does the tech add an additional 1 or is that accounting for the dark magic tech?

skigglez I could have sworn it does not get a buff because the attack comes from "magic" and not a weapon that can get tech enhanced 🤔

Lord Thane i might be mistaken on what he was asking - racial tech gives plus 1 range, sharper blades only impacts melee damage for DK
