Lord Eagle there's a bit over 3100 tp in techs available to research and at 1x you'll get around 2100 tp during the round. Anything over a 0.5 increase would just be wasted points, at 1.5 everyone would have 100% techs by the end.
I think only being able to research 2/3 of techs during a round is a good balance so people have to decide what strategy works best for them as the round progresses. Making it so everyone gets all techs takes away from the strategic value imo. The only way I think making techs go slightly faster makes sense is if there's a counter to balance it, like the earlier suggestion of building castles, at least then there's some strategic process happening in the spirit of techs research.
The change from gold+time to acquire techs to now only time-based is also a strategic component in itself. This affects kingdoms in multiple ways - first economically since there's less burden on cost the races that need gold the most will get the biggest benefit (dwarf > elf > undead > human, etc). Since the only cost associated with tech now is the time invested, increasing the amount of tp will further increase the disparity between racial balance. Races that typically perform better in early/mid rounds will get pushed further into a hole of obsolescence, while races that typically perform better in mid/late rounds will get an earlier advantage making them essentially unbeatable depending on how much additional TP is given.
For those reasons, I vote against any increase to TP distribution, as it has a clear potential to break the game.
