TheKeeper I changed my mind on this. An elf--especially with it's current army balance--is exceedingly less likely to use offensive spells because of castle risk getting pre'd and re'd, or maybe just a good old re, and there go your 100 mages 😉. Their greatest strengths become their greatest weaknesses. Fireballs and production-fuckers will become the tools of the strong, whilst the weak(elves lolkek) cannot afford to lose their castles over it.
How do we balance this, imo we: Make spammable spells more efficient than singular big spells and give spells a base chance to crit fail, resulting in a retal. Then you just balance how much spam vs how much you want players to fail and get retals. No idea what a fair values would be be, as you need to consider crit fail rate vs frequency vs spell power vs rest rate, in essence, how strong do you want magic to be? It would be nice to see players use spells liberally and getting a little side-fuck every once and awhile. How much time and offensive magic worth of casting is ultimately worth the value of your castle? Perhaps the answer lies there.
