On the opposite, I've heard more people complain about too much gold and nerfing markets.
The issue is that mills, mines, armoury is more important especially if you can lose upto 70% of your troops and more likely to do so because of range operating at full. Therefore, you need the houses and the pop for optimal (or just slightly above) for wood and iron, and sometimes for armour as well.
I think people just need to run more than 1:1 farms in this version. Meh, we'll adapt but it just makes hitting less appealing as you can only hit once you're fat with food stockpiles. On the other hand, it's a good massive advantage for the undead.
