Nolio well right now as it sits food is not enough when you send out a large enough army. The consumption was way to high for armies when they were sent out. Im not sure if that changed or not. If it did disregard If not I think in order to send an army out you should already have the needed supplies in stock to send it. It should tell you as you adjust your army to send if you have enough supplies to send the size or if you need to lessen the troop count. But i have no idea if this is possible or even something that anyone would like.
A post of reflection
While these are some intriguing ideas, it most feels like you’re suggesting making the game easier and faster.
We used to play this game on dial-up. We’d run home from the bus stop to log in and check if we’d been hit. The fact that it was challenging and slow is something I enjoy about this game. Losing that aspect would ruin the game for me personally. We’re meant to be managing kingdoms in war and peace. I understand that people don’t like “Farmferr,” but I always liked imagining myself as the leader of this kingdom, with my peasants having needs and me needing to get stronger. Sometimes, that means sitting back and stockpiling so I can go conquer more lands from a safer position. It’s a strategy war game, not just a war game. The politics of the players should really dictate the wars, and if your kingdom isn’t ready, then you failed as a leader.
I’m trying to speed up aspects of the game because we’re in a different era of online gaming than we were 25 years ago. I believe that the development evolutionary path of Thardferr leads to games like Clash of Clans. I would love to see a player base in the thousands again. My goodness the fun it would be to play where I don’t recognize 90% of the players because they’re the same old frenemies from ages ago.
Tick rate remains the same. Which I see as being very significant. We’re still progressing by the hour, it’s just that potential output in those hours is greater. After 2 decades surely the leaders of great kingdoms have created efficiencies to at least double output.
The increased productivity translates to quicker rebuilds. More attacking. More blood for armies to bath in and the sweet tears of the fallen to drink. This will make solid strategy all the more important. Remember having to manage your retals so you didn’t give out too many and leave yourself overexposed?
Shorter techs means faster progression through the tech tree. This helps to get kingdoms to their full potential quicker and with increased output technology advances need to also speed up.
Protection is put in place to what it was in the old days where you had to think. Darn the luck when you oversent or undersent on a retal!
And I fully accept that I am certainly varying degrees of right and wrong on every one of these ideas. My truth is mine and is not the only truth. The diversity in thought is what makes this interesting.
Oooooh good thought on food production. Doubling it would lead to increased army size which translates to the same devastating hits. Food would be the bottleneck. Same size army, getting to a full garrison is just faster.
Have to think of something for Undead those. No army consuming food makes them an interesting solution to explore.
@AdinTheDark I totally get where you're coming from, we've played together as province mates back in those days and as enemies. And if the game is easier for all, then we are all still playing at the same level. But I agree that there is a need for peace times and that there is a fun aspect of being in the mindset of a leader who takes care of their kingdom, including the peasants and everything in between. This is why I say there needs to be a balance. Not an extreme where everyone can attack every single tick, and rebuilding an army is meaningless. Just where it is faster, because as @trupheus said, the times have changed since we were teens playing on dial up. And change can be a good thing. I think we all want the same general thing, a fun game with a large and strong player base. But we can't force the game we used to love on people who didn't grow up with the same challenges like dial up, or the inability to communicate with their provinces. If we want more players of a new generation, it has to appeal to more people of that generation. I hope that makes sense.
trupheus i know it sounds much. I played as a gnome in one of the games after the end of oficial thardferr. I got hit 3 times and lost over 5000 catapults, and revived nearly half them. Only those who have big army can understand how it costs to lose such a huge investiment. Also, if you cant have benefits from attacking, you will spend most of the time farming. And for small province players getting hit all the time, its a way to keep.them in the game.
My brother in Gnome. Easily my favorite race to play. Losing 5k cats should hurt. It also means the army you hit was massive. Or you had no fodder to soak damage. Or a combination of both. Something else to consider here is that upkeep, especially for a gnome, would be astronomical if 50-75% of your army was at double food and gold cost. A good fight for a gnome is when the fodder dies and the ATC doesn’t. I made hits in the past expecting heavy casualties only to barely lose anything and be in a real bad food situation.
Thats why i talked about the medical centers revive the army at 50%. It makes it possible for you to fight back. I took 3 hits to be broken. I killed at the time over 100k troops of every enemie. If you lose and have to rebuild everything, its impossible. And we know that by the end, every tc troops doesnt matter, because humans will rule every other race with full tec units. The way to fight is with atc troops, so if you lose them, no way you'll get close to the top.
Adamastor I think they should heal 50% of ATC units and 25% of TC units, but this wouldnt of helped you because you said you lost catapults and NO gnome should be using medical centres, it defeats the strategy of gnome. Speaking of gnome though we need to get weapon building speed where it should be first. You get wiped out as Gnome and its next to impossible to build back up the weapons.
I didnt play gnome this round because of that.
Mack10 thats a good option too , to revive atc and few tc troops. We spend days growing an atc army and everthing goes away in a sec. Gnome, elf dwarf and undead are really hard to play and barelly any of them can make it to a good place in the long run
Nolio The wood comes with the Gold and since its early game and no one is trading, thats the only thing holding back gnomes early round, or they would CRUSH.
I would disagree with the wood bonus especially now there is a market. Maybe give gnomes -15% cost on market buys from the 'house' (100GP per wood to 85 each?)

Gnomes getting a bonus to market purchases to me sounds right on point with the fantasy theme the racial bonuses should be. They are masterminds of Great War machines intelligent and cunning very capable negotiators in the markets
AdinTheDark yeeep, I have had to use the market to supplement my wood supply all round. I think I got up to almost 2:1 mills at one point, it's crazy... I really like this idea about giving gnomes a break at the market though
Adamastor like i said. Just got bf by someone. My army is gone, and so is my castle. How can i respond to the hit with all my lost troops, and 0 revive? 20 years later the problem is the same. At least in the non official thardferr ,in some hours ,most of my army was revived and coukd fight back. And for the best, he still gets some hours of prot to rebuild watever he lost, wich will still be alot more than i can rebuild. This game is about troops, if we keep getting all of them killed, theres no way anyone new will come to it. Also apart, how can an orc truesight someone with over 0,6 schools and abou 7 wiz per land?
I forgot to add that i have 15 hours prot, he probably has 8 or more just for attacking me. Put you cli in somewhere we all know...
We used to hide our armies all the time. The worst thing was when you got caught with your army home. Then after gate enters the picture all the races with realistic access to gate get a huge advantage.
Lord Thane yeeep, I have had to use the market to supplement my wood supply all round. I think I got up to almost 2:1 mills at one point, it's crazy... I really like this idea about giving gnomes a break at the market though
So easily abused though. Just send your gold to gnome friend. They buy and send it to you. Does the selling kingdom still receive the full price they listed for? Or is the market buff only from the default vendor?
trupheus You make an excellent point about the abuse side, but I can see a work around on the other point for the vendor side of transactions. If as a gnome you buy wood from a vendor, the gnome pays the 85% and gets what is listed, but the vendor gets 100% of the gold posted through Thardferr supplementing the other 15%.
