I can see why this works. It emphasizes strategy and economy. Winning a war doesn't come down to how many friends you have, its if your strategy can sustain the attrition of war. I personally like it for that reason.
Will people trade attacks and look for advantages? Yes.
Will they have as much fun playing as they would if they just played the game? No.
War will take much longer to win because it will be more about sustaining economy and troops than outpacing castle collection.
Only flaw is your basically only attacking full armies all the time, so fighting someone higher in KS will prove difficult. Losses might need to be scaled back a bit?
